Guys, the longest month of the year has finally come to an end. We made it through the darkest, coldest month!!
And to keep riding that wave of happy thoughts, here's a couple of great things to look forward to:
- February is the shortest month: pay day is closer than we think
- Days are getting longer (although not getting any warmer, sorry)
- Next month the clock changes: HURRAY
- We are 6 weeks away from spring!
This month I went to my first ever Sound Bath experience:
For those of you who are not familiar with this, it is part meditation, part sound therapy, where the "sound healer" plays a number of instruments, including Himalayan singing bowls, crystal bowls, gongs, biosonic tuning forks, shamanic drumming, and chanting, whilst the listeners lie on the floor, on mats, with cosy blankets and pillows and allow themselves to be carried away, on magical sound waves, towards a cocoon of total relaxation. Oooooweee.
Our sound healer was Rachel from Welford Wellbeing, and the event was organised by Holly from Soul Stretch, based in Brixton.
I personally found it to be an amazing experience: not only did I feel totally relaxed, my whole body and mind still, clear and at ease, but the aspect that blew me away was the feeling of "connectedness" that I felt with the world, the people and the present moment. The bus trip from Brixton to Camberwell had never seemed so beautiful. I cannot wait for the next one (I meant the sound bath, not another bus ride).
I also went to a Full Moon guided meditation and tea ceremony: This also was lovely. Guided meditations I find are great, especially if you struggle to meditate on your own. Having somebody tell you what to do, where to bring your awareness, reminding you to breathe, really helps to find that inner peace, without having to struggle on your own.
1 in 4 British people experience mental health problems every year, and mental health has been named as one of the main reasons why staff are taking days off work. Taking care of yourself, eating well, keeping fit and talking are ways to help overcome this illness. Meditation and mindfulness are the more holistic approach.
I know I have spoken about this before but, although the practise of meditation needs, umm, practise to become "easy", it is also very accessible meaning... you have no excuse not to give it a go.
If you feel you would like to go to some public guided meditation classes, here are some places I have found that are doing guided meditation classes:
- https://www.lbc.org.uk/events/meditation/meditation-classes.html
- http://batterseayoga.com/events/meditation/

Have you been to any of these? What are your thoughts of meditating in a group environment?
